Memories are made of this.
Helsingin Juhlaviikot is about to start and streets are already getting a few more colors through the art of Jon Burgerman with whom we created the visuals of this year's edition.
Altistu Uudelle.
We wanted to emphasize the discovery aspect of the festival – one of the few where you can go to a rock gig, a chinese circus show and a screening of Sergio Leone's trilogy the same night! That's one of the many reasons why we wanted to work with Jon Burgerman, his hectic and colorful illustrations seem to be drawn from one line only and when you start following one of those lines, your eye, your mind wanders along the path of his pen and moods taking you from one world to another, here a Punk dog kissing a Rockabilly cat, there a pretty carrot abandoning herself to the bites of the big bad wolf (!), all of them encouraging you to try something new.
The first time I came across Jon Burgerman's work was in Paris when I visited one of his exhibition with my elder niece, she was 5 or 6 at that time but I can recall how hypnotized she was by Jon's art. I bought one of his original drawings then and when I moved to Finland I offered it to her so she would keep in mind that afternoon. Since then her walls saw many different kind of posters from ponies to her favorite rock star but one image remained at the same place through the years.
